Laughing gas is a great sedative for patients who experience anxiety or who have trouble getting numb. Nitrous during dental treatment helps to take the edge off. Tooth decay and gum disease are two of the most common problems associated with wisdom teeth. Wisdom tooth extraction is a simple procedure that can be completed within 45 minutes. The patient will get anesthesia, so they do not feel any pain during the tooth extraction. In case the dentist has to cut open the gum tissue or jaw bone to reach the tooth, stiched will be needed to close the wound. In some cases the dentist will also put synthetic bone graft in order to help the bone heal and make it stronger. Stiches will dissolve in a few days, so no additinal appointment will be needed.

With a normal tooth extraction, the tooth isrocked back and forth and the force of the rocking damages the tissues in the tooth socket. This tissue damage can cause pain for some time. Since atraumatic extraction is designed to minimize tissue damage, you'll experience much less pain and bleeding after your tooth is removed, you will recover faster and risk of infection will be lower.

Taking a non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory medication like ibuprofen will help with both the discomfort and swelling.

Holding ice packs on the outside of your jaw can be helpful, as can sticking with a soft foods diet. Avoid using a straw, smoking or vaping, so you don’t accidentally interfere with the clotting process. You’ll be pain-free and back to normal within a few days.
